The first known African residents of the New World arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619. They came without a choice, hope or a common language. Seemingly silenced in a strange land, it appeared that thousands of other Africans would discover the same bleak circumstances. However, through all of the misfortune arose one common means of sustenance- music. Over the years, this universal voice remained a constant as communities dealt with new faiths, new livelihoods, new instruments and new lives. The United States Army Field Band recorded In My Dream to commemorate those who strove to develop this new voice, and to those today who continue to "dream of a perfect place with but one human race". Songs on the album include many inspiring pieces like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", It's Time to Make a Change" and "I Believe I Can Fly." Each piece is played beautifully and with great attention to detail. In My Dream features some of the best musical performers in the world, all of whom serve proudly as members of America's Army.
