This wonderful album, recorded by The United States Coast Guard Dixieland Band, contains many selections considered to be standards in the Dixieland repertoire. They have been played by many of the greatest Dixieland musicians including Bob Crosby's Bobcats, the Dukes of Dixieland, Pete Fountain, Al Hirt, Louis Armstrong, and Jack Teagarden, to name a few. South is the first recorded release by the United States Coast Guard Dixieland Band. The Band was formed in 1969 to play authentic blues and rags with a distinctive New Orleans flavor. Showcasing the lineup of fine players, each track is played splendidly. Songs on the album include classics like "Yellow Dog Blues," "Fidgety Feet" and "Wabash Blues." This album is dedicated to the men and women of the United States Coast Guard who selflessly performed their duty in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
