These recordings were given out to schools and libraries in the 1970's by the Robert Hoe Foundation, and included in the 200+ LPs were 18 LPs of "The Heritage of John Philip Sousa". When everyone converted from LPs to CDs, these wonderful recordings were thrown in dumpsters. Now, thanks to Altissimo Recordings, these lost masterpieces have been remastered and sound terrific!
The recordings were done by The President's Own United States Marine Band, conducted by Col. Jack Kline between 1974-76, and now include liner notes by Paul Bierley. There are over 195 tracks in these 18 discs, and given the fact that Mr. Sousa only wrote 136 marches, his suites and other concert gems are included. I highly recommend this fantastic box set to anyone who enjoys concert band music done right.
Maybe someday, we will see the rest of "The Heritage of the March" restored as well.
