Symphonies of Wind Instruments (Digital Only) - US Marine Band
* You may also purchase individual songs as MP3 downloads below
Although by common definition this recording presents five “symphonies” for winds, only one would truly be considered a symphony in the formal sense. Other than the obvious commonality of instrumentation, the one thing all of the pieces have in common is that each is a product of accomplished, distinctive and significant 20th century composers. Igor Stravinsky and Charles Ives represent the early part of the century on the album, while Aaron Copland and Joaquin Rodrigo cover the middle of the century. Then end of the album contains music from David Rakowksi who was commissioned by “the President’s Own” Marine Band and Director Colonel Timothy W. Foley to compose a piece especially for this album. Symphonies of Wind Instruments plays interestingly like a walk through history, as each composer has his own style and personal influences. This is truly a work of beauty and another reason why the United States Marine Band is known throughout the world for its musicianship and skill. For Composers and Liner Notes
