Commemoration features the outstanding works of several composers, arrangers and educators who have influenced the symphonic band idiom in the United States. This is American band music at its finest, and we are proud to preserve this repertoire for generations to come. We also recognize the selfless dedication of Zachary and Elizabeth M. Fisher who played an important part in the support of our Navy’s people, and the defense of our great nation. The contribution to the welfare of our armed forces is unparalleled. We are pleased to dedicate the Intrepid March to them, and we were thrilled to perform at Carnegie Hall in March 1996. The recordings on this compact disc are exciting and I think you’ll agree that the band’s performance is brilliant. On behalf if the men and women of the United States Navy Band, I am very proud to present Commemoration.
