Showcase spotlights the incredible amount of talent and diversity of The United States Navy Band and its specialty groups- the Sea Chanter chorus, Fair Winds jazz-vocal quartet, Commodores jazz ensemble, and Country Current country-bluegrass group. On this album, many choral and instrumental works are represented, including contemporary American works on both the symphonic and jazz idioms, traditional country and bluegrass tunes and vocal selections ranging from chanteys, or sea songs, to opera. Several numbers are original compositions, and members of the Navy Band arranged others. The entire album was recorded and mixed by Navy Band personnel.

 

Led by Commander Philip Howard Field, the United States Navy Band sustains a tradition of excellence dating from 1925 when Congress designated the organization as the permanent representative band of the United States Navy in Washington, D.C.
